Last night, following his unexpected (for me) American Idol elimination, I had one of those “I’ll be laughing at myself about this one for a while!”-encounters with Danny Gokey.

After I congratulated him on making it to the Top 3, Danny mentioned that he’s quite the Brian McKnight enthusiast. Now, being Season 8’s soul-singer extraordinaire, his respect for McKnight was no shocker to me. The real surprise occurred after I told him that my favorite McKnight song was the falsetto-heavy Love Of My Life. Danny, being a fellow fan of the song, started singing it, but instead of just enjoying his vocal stylings, the karaoke beast within me arose, and I found myself attempting to sing along with the dude.

Granted, once my nerve caught up with me and I noticed that people were indeed listening, I quickly reduced my volume and transitioned into what I hope was a melodic hum of sorts! Props to Danny for not calling me out for chiming in – I just got caught up!

Alas, though he was a frontrunner in my book, I won’t stress too much over Danny’s disappointing dismissal, because the man’s got character and vocal chops – he’ll be alright!
