‘Lie to Me’: How To Decode A Phony Smile
Fox’s fresh drama Lie to Me is a welcome addition to the network’s fall slate. The show trails a team of keen crime investigators, called the Lightman Group, that assists the government by reading the truths off of people’s faces, quite literally.
Lie to Me’s concept – the idea that our facial expressions can reveal more than some mechanical lie detector – is intriguing, and as I shared with you earlier, Fox has promoted the drama with inventive flair (Click here to view pictures from the Hollywood Lie to Me promotion.).
Since there’s real science at the core of the show’s premise, in the first episode, I learned how to tell whether or not a person’s smile is authentic: one’s brow wrinkles a bit if he or she is genuinely smiling, but there’s no trace of a wrinkle if the smile is fake!
I’m anxious to test this theory out. So if you have a conversation with me in the next week or so, and I seem to be staring at your eyebrows, don’t mind me. I’m just doing a little research.
As long as the show continues to feed me helpful social bites like this, I’ll probably keep tuning in!
